forgiveness is where rest begins

You are holding a small plant. It will grow slowly, and it will ask for very little: some water, some light, some patience.

On this pot we wrote a line we believe in at Ten: forgiveness and tolerance are the foundation of rest. Not a slogan, but something we witness every day in our work: the body never truly rests while the heart is carrying weight.
What are we carrying?
All of us carry something. A word that cut deeper than it should have. A moment we cannot un-remember. Someone who let us down. And often, the heaviest thing we carry is the blame we hold against ourselves.

We imagine that holding on to the hurt protects us, or that being hard on ourselves makes us better. The truth is simpler, and kinder: a grievance punishes no one but the one who carries it. It is a small stone in your pocket. You forget it is there, yet it weighs down every step.
Forgiveness is not weakness. It is release.
To forgive does not mean that what happened was right, and it does not mean allowing it to happen again. Forgiveness is not a message you send to someone else. It is a gift you give yourself: the decision to set the stone down and walk on, lighter.

When you forgive, you do not change the past. You change the way you see it. And when the way you see changes, everything changes: the chest loosens, the breath deepens, and the calm that was always there, waiting quietly underneath, finally has room to return.
Begin with yourself
It is easy to be gentle with others and merciless with ourselves. But real kindness starts within.

You made a mistake? We all have. A mistake does not define you; what you learn from it does. Speak to yourself the way you would speak to someone you love: with patience, with tenderness, with the certainty that they are capable of better and beautiful things.

Whoever forgives themselves finds it easier to forgive others. Whoever is gentle with themselves overflows with gentleness for everyone around them. That is how kindness travels: from a heart at rest, to a home at rest, to a wider, warmer world.
A small practice: two minutes
Take a deep breath in. Let it go slowly.

Bring to mind someone you have been holding something against. It may be another person. It may be you.

Say quietly, inside: "I choose to set this weight down. I choose my rest."

You do not have to feel different right away. Forgiveness is exactly like this plant: you water it a little every day, and then one morning you notice it has grown, and something inside you has turned green.
In the end
Care for this plant the way you care for your heart: light, water, patience, and plenty of kindness.

And every time your eyes fall on it, remember: true rest cannot be bought and cannot be rushed. It begins with one small decision, renewed daily: to forgive, to be tolerant, and to treat ourselves with the same gentleness we offer the people we love.

This plant was gifted with love, from your second family.
